GROW: Forgiveness of Us Pt 2
“13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13-14 NIV
Last year, we did an in depth study on the book of Colossians. When we got to these two verses, we gained great knowledge. When we accepted Christ’s gift of salvation, Do you truly realized what actually took place in that moment? For 30 years, I only had some knowledge of what had happened and what it meant in my life. So lets dig into the word and gain a deeper understanding. The transfer into the light happens when we accept our free gift of salvation. Because of Christ blood, we are redeemed and forgiven.
The Darkness
Have you ever asked yourself the question, “Why will they not accept Jesus into their life?”, “Can’t they see what God can do for them?”. The answer is plain and simple. No, they can not see. Nor could we before we were saved. The reason why is because like them we were sitting in darkness not able to see. (Acts 26:18) Have you ever woke up in the middle of the night in complete darkness? What were you able to see? Nothing, not even your hand in front of your face. That is what it is like when we lived in the darkness. Not able to see God’s saving grace.
Who has power over the darkness? Satan does, it is his domain.
The Light
Opposite of darkness is lightness. Who is the light? God, the kingdom of the Son is lightness. Were we can see! Our rescuer, deliverer, redeemer. These are the things He did for us when we became saved. Once you became saved and started growing in the Lord, was there a new understanding of the ways God worked in your life that you was able to see? I know for me I was able to and the more I grow in Him the more I see and understand.
Who has the power over lightness? God does, it is His domain.
The Transfer Into Light
When we sat in darkness, we could not see or understand because of the darkness. (John 1:1-5) We could not rescue ourselves from the darkness on our own, only God is powerful enough to rescue us from satan then transferred us into His kingdom. In His kingdom, we find out who we was and who we are now(Eph 5:8-10) children of light because of Christ who is the only one powerful enough to redeem us and forgive us of our sins.
The reassuring fact of these verses to me is: God’s redemption and forgiveness of my sin the day I accepted Him as my personal Lord and Savior was Forgiveness Transfers.

In His Love, Crisi
This post has been shared on GROW in His Word and Fellowship Friday.
Great post Crisi! I like your description of why those who are in darkness can’t see Christ. Loved reading your reflection. 🙂
Thanks Faith. I am so glad I joined in on the spring edition of GROW. What a great group of sisters.
