Today, we are going to revisit the part where Jesus is anointed and we see the side-stories taking place between Judas and those plotting against Jesus. Here is something I read in a commentary for us to ponder over about this act this woman did for Jesus, “Did he pour out his soul unto death for us, and shall we think any box of ointment too precious to pour out upon him?…Matthew Henry’s Commentary”
Plotting Jesus Arrest
The way the chief priests and the teachers were discussing their plans against Jesus shows how self-seeking they were. They wanted to do away with Jesus in secret, be His judges, jury and executioners all the while keeping themselves open to continue to exploit the people with their sacrifices.
Woman Anoints Jesus
By this point Jesus has predicted His death three times. He knew His time was near. More than likely His thoughts were upon His death. The act of love this woman did for our Lord is something we should be doing. This woman brought her best, her most expensive to Jesus to honor and respect Him. What about you and me, are we bringing our best, our all when it comes to honoring and respecting our Lord? Didn’t Jesus do that for us? He poured His life out on the cross so that we can live.
Judas Barters and Deals
Judas searched out those who wished to have Jesus killed. Here he barters and makes a deal to betray Jesus, then watches and waits for the best opportunity. To discover more about Judas story go to Judas, One of the Twelve to find out more. His self-serving deal sends him down a path of no return for him. Sin is like that, once we go down that path there is only One who can turn us around and save us. But we have to choose to hand it over to God in order for Him to forgive us. There are lessons to be learned by Judas, Are we willing to learn them?
