“Sing to the Lord with grateful praise; make music to our God on the harp.”Psalm 147:7 NIV
Some years ago, truths from my families past had been revealed to me. In the revelation of these reveals, I found myself with an uneasy soul, a broken heart full of despair and emotional wounds that were in need of healing. The following Sunday, we closed the service singing “It Is Well with My Soul”. However it was not well with my soul. The words could not fall off my lips, the tears began building up in my eyes and my heart was longing for the service to be over. I wanted to escape and get away. All day long, I was incapable to do anything except cry and try to hide. Towards the evening hours, not knowing what to do, I got in my car and headed back to church. I wasn’t going to hear the Christmas program, I was going to seek out guidance towards healing. Over a period of time God did heal and I can not help but to raise my voice in praise when I sing “It Is Well with My Soul”. The words to this song are precious and dear to me, they remind me of God’s sovereignty over my life. So to study this one verse without looking at it in context would us no justice.
“6 The Lord sustains the humble but casts the wicked to the ground. 7 Sing to the Lord with grateful praise; make music to our God on the harp. 8 He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills.” Psalm 147:6-8 NIV
I would also encourage you to take the time to read the whole chapter. For in this chapter, we see God’s sovereignty. His control over all things. His concern in even the smallest of details like verse 4 tells us, He determines the number of stars and calls them each by name.
Due to His sovereignty and our dependence upon Him. Would we not want to delight Him in songs of praise? To sing to the Lord with grateful praise is to testify and give witness with thankfulness for all that He does and all that He is.
In His Love, Crisi
This is a great testimony to God’s grace and love! I love to sing praises!!
