The trail ahead looked easy. Cutting its way up the mountainside. A few hundred feet up it narrowed revealing rocks cut up from under the ground. Roots inter winded making the climb difficult. Moss covered rocks and trees showed signs from the lack of sunshine, But upward we continued taking in the beauty of all God created. The promise of a glorious waterfall lays ahead. Hints of that promise could be seen by the sight and sounds of the nearby stream. Each step became more difficult as sweet dripped from my brow. Forty five minutes into the climb we had to turn around and make the descent downward. Time was not on our side this day. The waterfall we did not reach. We had to descend at a rapid pace to meet our deadline. Instead of following the established trail, we took a few shortcuts. Due to our choices a few proved not so great. I lost my footing and slide down a rock leaving bare skin cut up and torn. In meeting our deadline I got to thinking. Our life isn’t that much different from climbing that trail. Our path in life is sometimes steep and difficult with the great promise ahead. We catch glimpses of our promise by the way God displays Himself. Sometimes we turn away from Him never reaching the goal we had set. We run from Him trying to do it on our own. Only to stumble, fall and get hurt along the way. We can always turn back to Him. He is always there with wide open arms. Guiding and teaching us to trust in Him on the path ahead. No matter how difficult or steep it may get.
