Laboring In Love and Service

labor

Today, we are celebrating Labor Day. For some it marks the unofficial end of summer. They will mark it with going to the beach, parties and cook outs. Some will have the day and some will have to work. However, it was created to celebrate the American workers for their social and economic achievements. The well-being, prosperity and strength of our country has been because of their (our) contributions to our society.

In today’s society, it is hard or maybe even rare to find good, honest, hard-working individuals in the work place. The morals and work ethics have seemed to deteriorated. It does not have to be that way! As a believer, we have been called to be so much more.

“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, Knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality.” Colossians 3:23-25 NKJV

We are called to do everything, heartily. What does that mean? In everything we do at work or at home, do it passionately, with all your heart and with all your soul. Yes, that even means when we are scrubbing the toilets. It’s not because God wants our toilets so clean that they sparkle. He wants us to do, as we are doing it for Him. With a joyful heart and out of obedience towards Him. Will everything we do be appreciated or even noticed? Who knows but God does notice and is keeping track. He even gave us a promise in these verses. When we do everything with all our heart and soul as though it is for Him. We will receive our reward. When we do wrong, we will be repaid.

Don’t worry about being appreciated here on earth for all that you do. Don’t let the lack of payment or recognition discourage you from doing, what you were created to do. We have an audience and that audience is made up by one. The One, who will reward us with more than we could ever begin to imagine.

When I am doing a task that I am not really wanting to do or I have let discouragement enter into my heart. I change my heart and my attitude by singing the hymn “Great is Thy Faithfulness”.

Lifting up prayers and praises to God has always made a difference in my life. What about you?

In His Love, Crisi

If your boss/company will not notice your hard work, someone else will. Beautiful reminder on this Labor Day. 🙂
