The heart has been on my mind for quite a while now. For a very good reason too. The Bible speaks a lot about the heart. You have the evil heart, hardening of the heart, the uncircumcised heart, the circumcised heart, cleansing of the heart, the pure heart and the list goes on. Today I am going with asking for a clean heart.
“Create in me a clean heart, oh God; and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10 NKJV

Are you still with me after all that? I was once again amazed with all the themes this one verse held. God placed this verse on my heart for a reason. I had been grumbling to myself about a few situations. Trying to put them in perspective with what God wants for me in this season of my life. To me a not so pleasant task is at hand. Repairing and repainting the exterior of our house. While we are still in the process of this “joyful” task. My inward complaints was “Really, it’s the hottest part of the year, I do NOT want to do this!!”, “I know it needs to be done, but I do NOT want to do it!!”, “It’s a lot of hard work, I do NOT want to do it!!”, “I have all these other weekly/daily chores to take care of, I do NOT want to do it!!” Are you noticing anything here? It is all about what I don’t want to do. I have not focused on anybody else, my selfish heart. Like David I was letting my desires and self-serving ways eat at my heart. Slowly invading my spirit causing a discontent in my mind.
In David’s prayer for sanctifying grace. He was remorseful and wanted more of God. He saw his heart full of impurity. He knew he couldn’t do it on his own power. That only the Creator had the power to clean his heart. His spirit was broken and decayed from the results of his own desires and self-serving ways. He knew he needed to be cleansed and renewed. God’s grace can do that for us as well. All we have to do is ask. He alone can cleanse our heart and renew our spirit.
In His Love, Crisi
