“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6 NIV
Submission equals Righteousness
Our human bodies were designed to hunger for food and thirst for drink. These desires can only be met when we seek out the source to fulfill them. Once we are full the desires go away, only to return again. This pattern goes on daily in our life, to sustain us.
When was the last time you hungered or was thirsty for righteousness?
What does righteousness even mean?
Definition in a broad sense: state of him who is as he ought to be, righteousness, the condition acceptable to God the doctrine concerning the way in which man may attain a state approved of God, integrity, virtue, purity of life, rightness, correctness of thinking feeling, and acting in a narrower sense, justice or the virtue which gives each his due.
In plain english for believers, conforming our lives to the will of God and reflecting who God is in the way we live. Our hearts desire should be to hunger and thirst to be more like Christ. Our relationship with God can fulfill that desire as we grow in Him daily. He is the food that we need and the drink to quench our thirst. We can not be righteous, without submitting to God’s will for our life. When we are in submission to God’s will for our lives, He will fulfill His promise to us. Our righteousness comes from God, through faith.
“Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:” Romans 3:22 KJV
